Trainer Bios

  • Leslie Brown

    Leslie Brown was the Project Coordinator at HEY from January 2009 to July 2010 leading the technical assistance and training curriculum including the development of the Youth Empowerment Guide.  She currently works with CompassPoint as Assistant Project Coordinator supporting several of their key initiatives.  Before her work at HEY, Leslie was the Associate Director of Ozone House, the nation's second oldest youth shelter. She has extensive experience and education in non-profit leadership, specializing in designing, implementing, and managing programs and services to supporting transitional age youth. Leslie holds a Bachelor of Science from Eastern Michigan University and a Masters in Public Administration from University of Michigan.  She is available for consulting and training for agencies and individuals interested in engaging and empowering youth.   • Stacey Daraio

    Stacey Daraio is inspired by youth development work! Her roles have included program developer; project manager and instructional designer; actor; director; and therapist. Her greatest joy is being in a room of people dedicated to improving the lives of young people and supporting that endeavor. She stays motivated by opening spaces where multiple perspectives, divergent points of view and orientations are supported and encouraged. Working with a diverse group of researchers, evaluators, funders and youth-serving organizations, Stacey has developed technical assistance systems to support youth workers and youth serving organizations to improve their work with young people. Stacey has worked extensively throughout the Bay Area, the state of California and nationally, demonstrating her commitment to creating quality environments for ALL youth.

  • Claudia Mendez

    Born in San Francisco, Claudia Mendez attends San Francisco State University as a full-time student, and volunteers in different local, community based organizations.  In 2009, she joined Honoring Emancipated Youth (HEY) to become a member of HEY’s Emancipation Youth Advocacy Board (EYAB).  Through the merger of HEY and TAYSF, Claudia is a happy new addition to the TAYSF team.  Accomplishing her personal and academic goals is a big priority in Claudia’s life, and Claudia’s biggest goal is to attend law school to advocate for foster youth.  Claudia can be reached at Claudia@taysf.org.

  • Edgewood Center for Children and Families

    A non-profit community-based organization, Edgewood provides mental and behavioral health services to youth and families in San Francisco. Edgewood practitioners have extensive experience in training school staff and youth workers to support children with intense behavioral and family needs. Edgewood worked closely with Mentoring For Success to develop Mentoring 101 and Mentoring 201, trainings to train and retain volunteer mentors to provide effective mentoring to middle school students.

  • The Transitional Age Youth Initiative

    The Transitional Age Youth Initiative, TAYSF, works closely with San Francisco's public and private agencies to create a strong system of support for the more than 7,000 disconnected youth and young adults in San Francisco.  To learn more about TAYSF's projects and priorities, visit www.taysf.org
