After School Site Coordinator
2008-2009 Job Description

General Overview:
The ExCEL After School Program Site Coordinator will oversee the ExCEL After School Program at one of several new ExCEL ASP school sites. The programs include three primary components: Academics, Enrichment and Recreation and operate after school -site dismissal five days a week until 6 pm.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Communication

  • Develop and maintain a high level of communication and positive relationships with principal, teachers, office staff, lunch clerks, custodians, and after school staff.
  • Be directly supervised by the School Site Administrator and Community Partner, and receive general supervision from the ExCEL District Coordinator.
  • Develop and maintain positive parent relations.
  • Provide program orientation, encourage involvement, and maintain monthly contact with families and school.
  • Provide on-going parent workshops, services and special events.
  • Respond promptly and courteously to parent concerns and/or complaints. Immediately notify School Site Administrator, and the ExCEL District Coordinators of parent concerns and/or complaints.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress and performance.
  • Meet at least monthly with the School Site Council/ Leadership Team to coordinate program design, discuss evaluation processes and outreach efforts, and address any other issues.
  • Work closely with Lead Teacher and School Site Council / Leadership Team to:

    o Identify students and coordinate student outreach for the After School Program.
    o Align activities with the regular school day.
    o Implement evaluation tools.


Development and Implementation

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the program.
  • Facilitate regular after school staff meetings and trainings.
  • Coach, supervise, and provide professional development for program staff.
  • Assure safety and supervision of children at all times, with a 20:1 ratio of adults to children.
  • Maintain high visibility at the site of the After School Program.
  • Assure classrooms and other shared school space is well maintained and left as found.
  • Develop and maintain a schedule of academic, recreational and enrichment activities.
  • Assure accurate distribution and accounting of snacks.
  • Submit monthly student attendance and student snack reports on a timely basis.
  • Coordinate with all site-based student support services, including Student Assistance Programs, Student Success Teams, Health Advocates, Healthy School Teams, Peer Resources, Wellness Centers, and Health Promotion Committee.


Recruitment, Coordination and Collaboration

  • Recruit and enroll program participants to meet grant average daily attendance requirements.
  • Identify, train, and supervise teachers, paraprofessionals, volunteers, parent liaisons, and community partners to implement academic, recreation, and enrichment activities.
  • Attend school staff meetings quarterly to provide information and updates on After School Program.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with community based organizations, public agencies, local universities, city agencies, and other collaborators.


Fiscal Management

  • Oversee budget development and expenditure tracking.
  • Coordinate payment of After School staff, including timesheets and invoices.
  • Help design a sustainability plan for After School Program.


Comply with all District and grant guidelines

  • Oversee facility management, including attendance, snacks, custodial, classroom, security, safety, and transportation.
  • Submit all required documentation on a timely basis, including attendance, snack counts, emergency cards, permission forms, board resolutions, payroll, and surveys.
  • Coordinate evaluation process, including surveys of students, staff, and parents.
  • Participate in all meetings, workshops, and activities organized by SHPD ExCEL.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years college, AA degree, or passage of district competency test.
  • Experience working in a school and/or agency setting.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse district/school staff, parents, and community members.
  • Able to implement and supervise a positive learning environment, incorporating academics, enrichment and recreation.
  • Fingerprint and TB test clearance.
  • CPR/1st Aid certified – preferred.

ExCEL After School Program Leader
2008-2009 Job Description

General Overview:
Under the direction of the Site Coordinator, the Program Leader will provide assistance and tutoring to students in the after school program, and will lead engaging academic, enrichment, and recreation activities with groups of up to 20 students. Program Leaders will provide opportunities for students to develop & strengthen academic, physical, and social skills. Program Leaders work at ExCEL After School program sites (K-8)

Job Responsibilities:

  • Under supervision of the Site Coordinator and Lead Teacher develop daily lesson plans.
  • Lead organized learning activities for students to develop and strengthen their academic, physical, and social skills.
  • As needed, differentiate lessons and activities so they are appropriate to students with various abilities.
  • Review program work plans with Site Coordinator, Lead Teacher, or classroom teacher for effective program implementation.
  • Participate in and evaluate the effectiveness of activities and events.
  • Instruct students on the safe and proper use of supplies and equipment.
  • Implement discipline techniques and classroom management.
  • Participate in cleaning and maintaining the facilities and equipment.
  • Inspect the school site and the equipment for potential safety hazards; taking corrective action to prevent injuries.
  • Interact professionally and appropriately with parents, teachers and school staff.
  • Participate in school site staff meetings and on-going training opportunities.
  • Comply with all San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) policies and procedures.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of college preferred
  • Minimum 1 year experience working with diverse youth in an organized setting
  • Health Screening/TB Clearance
  • Background/Fingerprint Clearance


Hours:
Hours may vary from program to program; positions available in after school programs providing services to youth in grades K-8.

Pay:
$10 - $18 per hour depending on experience.

PROGRAM LEADER:  RECREATION FOCUS

Under the direction of the Site Coordinator, the Recreation Leader will implement recreation activities, e.g. organized games/physical activities, dance, martial arts, sports, etc. with groups of up to 20 students.

  • Provide opportunities for students to do well and find enjoyment in recreation activities, develop and strengthen recreation and social skills, and support school day success.
  • Work as a member of a team to implement age appropriate after school learning and recreation/enrichment activities.

ExCEL After School Program District Coordinator
2008-2009 Job Description

Mission:
To ensure the academic, physical and emotional growth of San Francisco’s children and youth by assisting school sites in building their capacity to meet the needs of the whole child

The mission is aligned with SFUSD goals and priorities and evidenced in our goals and objectives, which will be implemented under the direction of the Executive Director of School Health Programs Department (SHPD), the ExCEL Coordinator will provide professional development, technical assistance, and resources to support school sites in coordinating and implementing expanded learning programs. 

SHPD ExCEL consists of programs, services, and projects based on school-community partnerships to promote student achievement and family involvement by providing services outside the classroom or during the out-of-school hours. 

Duties and Responsibilities:
To oversee the alignment of SHPD initiatives at the site, district, and city levels by building the capacity of school sites to develop, implement, and coordinate programs and services to meet the needs of the whole child.

  • Ensure SHPD ExCEL programs are in compliance with district, local, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Facilitate collaboration between SFUSD departments and offices, public agencies, educational entities, and youth-focused initiatives.
  • Develop communication strategies to increase SFUSD and City awareness and support for ExCEL programs.
  • Participate in coordinated service efforts and school-linked programs organized by School Health Programs Department.
  • Coordinate fiscal management of the programs, including budget development, expenditures, and projected expenditures.
  • Assist and coordinate program evaluation, documentation of program achievements, and compilation of all required reports.
  • Maintain contact with Department of Children, Youth, and Their Families and U.S. and California Departments of Education regarding grant allocations, budgets, program updates, and evaluation process.
  • Assist with the assessment, planning, and development of infrastructures to increase the sustainability of programs, services, and projects.
  • Conduct informational sessions and technical assistance workshops to sites interested in applying for the expanded learning grants.
  • Coordinate the application process for successful completion and submission of grants.

To provide professional development and technical assistance to administrators, teachers, coordinators, and community partners to develop quality academic and enrichment programs that promote the achievement of students.

  • Provide resources and technical assistance for site staff to address the academic and enrichment needs of students.
  • Plan and implement on-going professional development for administrators, teachers, coordinators, and community partners.
  • Work with teachers and coordinators to develop individualized achievement plans for students.
  • Collaborate with teachers and coordinators to use assessment tools that are functional and effective.
  • Identify academic and enrichment curricula and resources to improve programs.
  • Work closely with school sites to develop ExCEL programs that may be adaptable and replicable to meet the needs of students of other school sites.
  • Collaborate with SFUSD departments in the planning and implementing of professional development and curriculum design.
  • Establish relationships with regional and statewide professional development networks.
  • Ensure academic and enrichment activities are aligned with state and local curriculum standards.
  • Assist with professional development efforts for SHPD services and programs.
  • Develop and implement strategies for increasing the capacity of school sites and community partners.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in related field
  • 3 years of school experience working with school age children/students
  • Experience designing and facilitating professional development
  • Experience working with public schools and community based organizations
  • Project development and management experience
  • Strong knowledge of Youth Development principals
  • Experience working with academic curriculum
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working with a culturally diverse population
  • Computer literate

Preferred:

  • Teaching experience
  • Bilingual
  • Curriculum development experience
